That\u2019s how I stumbled upon the <a href=\"http:\/\/gnr.nl\/ontdek_het_gnr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Schaapskooi<\/a> (sheep pen) in Blaricum in North Holland where every Sunday afternoon they hold an open house from 2-4pm. This great place is home to a special race of sheep called the Drenthe Heath which have thin gentle faces and long brown wool and are very beautiful. They are the oldest breed of sheep in Western Europe, going back to 4000 BC!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/asheepcalledskye.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Drenthe-Heath.jpg\" alt=\"Drenthe Heath\" width=\"584\" height=\"438\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-471\" srcset=\"https:\/\/asheepcalledskye.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Drenthe-Heath.jpg 584w, https:\/\/asheepcalledskye.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Drenthe-Heath-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/asheepcalledskye.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Drenthe-Heath-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently they are very good at keeping the heather down and their wool is ideal for felt. There\u2019s a famous designer called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.claudyjongstra.com\/process\/drenthe-heath-sheep\/58 \" target=\"_blank\">Claudy Jongstra<\/a> who keeps her own flock of Drenthe Heath sheep and has even used their wool to make the Jedi costumes for Star Wars \u2013 imagine that! I\u2019m sure my thick dirty coat won\u2019t qualify for such stardom but still it made me feel quite excited to think of the dizzy heights to which we could all climb in 2015, if only we dare look beyond our own field.
